Battle of the Cars

 

 
On 12 March, the Stalin Line Historical and Cultural Complex will host one of the most extreme motoring events of the early part of the year – the Battle of the Cars at Maslenitsa survival car battles.

Despite the success of the first  Battle of the Cars, which took place at the complex in September last year, the organisers have set out to make this event even more spectacular and action-packed.

There will now be three vehicle classes instead of two. Competitors will be able to prepare vehicles for the Unlim class (an external roll cage around the vehicle body is permitted), the Base Pro class (reinforcements may be fitted within the vehicle body), and the Base class (the vehicle body may not be reinforced by any structures). However, a driver safety cage and a fuel tank inside the passenger compartment are mandatory in all three classes.
Starting with the Battle of the Cars at Maslenitsa, competitors will accumulate ranking points to determine the best drivers at the end of the year. The ranking system will be introduced in beta-test mode this season, with its mandatory use planned for 2017.
Starting at 12.00 , the complex will host Maslenitsa festivities. Visitors of all ages will enjoy taking part in numerous competitions and quizzes celebrating the arrival of spring.
The day’s main attraction, the survival car battles, will begin in the main arena at 14:00.
Survival car battles are motorsport competitions involving full-contact driving. Competitors may ram any part of their opponents’ vehicles to put them out of action. There is only one rule in this type of derby: ramming the driver’s door is prohibited.
 
And the organisers have prepared plenty of surprises!


The well-known presenter and showman Artyom Rybakinwill compete in the Unlim class. This will be the first attempt to put a media personality behind the wheel of a battle car. For the occasion, the organising team has built a fearsome monster on wheels based on the legendary GAZ-21 Volga. The vehicle has been fitted with a powerful modern engine and a rear axle from a Gazelle van; its body has been extensively modified and given a design inspired by the film Mad Max. Another unique aspect of the project is that the construction process is being covered by the Gearbox programme on the Belarus 1 television channel.

 

But the most exciting feature will be the first-ever friendly five-a-side match between teams from Belarus and Russia. A combined team from the Russian cities of Kazan and Ulyanovsk will be joining us for the Battle of the Cars at Maslenitsa. Survival car battles are particularly popular in these cities, and a selection round even had to be held for the Kazan entrants. The team car battles will take place in the lightest Base class, in which vehicles sustain the most extensive damage during competition. The match is guaranteed to be spectacular.

 
 
 
As a special treat, the organisers have saved the first appearance of female drivers in Belarusian survival car battles! And the ‘mad lady’ will not be alone: as well as the competitor from Minsk, a woman from Kazan has entered the battles. When it became known that a Russian woman would also be competing, the decision was made to include the women in the team contest. The perfect format has been devised: victory will go to the team whose female crew remains mobile.
To mark International Women’s Day, the male drivers will demonstrate in practice how to stand up for the fair sex.
 
 
 
In addition to the destructive races, spectators will be entertained by characters inspired by the film Mad Max, as well as an extreme strength show. As at the first Battle of the Cars, visitors will be able to vote for the winner of the Audience Choice Award.
 
Naturally, the Stalin Line complex will also provide thrilling tank rides over the roofs of cars. There will also be a dangerous motoring stunt performed by a professional stuntman and a demonstration by the Ministry of Emergency Situations team.
 

Survival car battle competitors are guaranteed access to electricity in the technical area, free meals, prize money and gifts from the event partners.

Join us on Saturday, 12 March, at the Stalin Line Historical and Cultural Complex (20 km from Minsk along the P28). The event begins at 12:00, the car battles at 14:00, and the awards ceremony at 20:00.
 
A paid bus service will operate: departures from Kamennaya Gorka from 10:00 to 13:00 and from Stalin Line from 16:00 to 20:30. Buses will depart when full.
Fare: 20,000 roubles.
 
Free visitor parking for 800 vehicles will be available (turn left off the P28 before reaching the complex, towards the paintball area).
Tickets for the event can be purchased both at Stalin Line and on the Stalin Line website.
 
Ticket prices remain unchanged from last year:
  • Advance purchase (until 11 March) – 130,000 roubles
  • Tickets purchased on the day of the event – 150,000 roubles
  • Children’s ticket – 50,000 roubles. Admission is free for children under 7.
