24 September — Demolition Derby

On 24 September, the Stalin Line Historical and Cultural Complex will host one of the year’s most extreme events: the “Battle of the Cars 2” Demolition Derby.

This event, which has already become a tradition, was first held at the complex a year ago. In such a short time, it has firmly established itself as a must-see event among motor sport enthusiasts.

This time, “Battle of the Cars 2” will bring the 2016 Demolition Derby Season to a close. Prepared cars and fearless drivers will compete in a full-contact, no-holds-barred contest that promises unforgettable thrills for drivers and spectators alike. During the current season, demolition derbies have already been held at Stalin Line, in Pinsk and in Grodno. Despite the difficult economic situation, the number of new participants and spectators has continued to grow steadily. This time, the Demolition Derby at Stalin Line will have a unique new look! Visitors can expect striking post-apocalyptic sets and characters.

The “Battle of the Cars 2” competition will bring experienced drivers and newcomers from across the country to the tarmac Arena at Stalin Line. They will compete in three classes: Unlim (an external roll cage around the car body is permitted), “Base Pro” (reinforcements may be fitted within the car body) and “Base” (the car body may not be reinforced with any structures).  For the first time, alongside competitors from the CIS, a crew from Norway will take part in the event! To mark the occasion, a Volga has been built at the Stalin Line complex for the “Base” class, incorporating both domestic and international demolition derby experience into its design.

In addition to the complex’s numerous displays of military vehicles and aircraft from different periods, and its fascinating guided tours, visitors can enjoy a range of interactive activities, a varied food court and an additional children’s entertainment area, as well as themed photo zones and a special entertainment programme culminating in a spectacular fire show and fireworks display.

Car Audio Information

Our friends from Subwoow Club will bring the season to a close with the third and final round of the Belarusian Car Audio Championship. It is going to be seriously loud! Incidentally, last year’s “Battle of the Cars” set a Belarusian sound-pressure record. We shall see how much the competitors have improved over the past year and whether the record will be broken.

Competition Information

A demolition derby is a motor competition involving full contact. Drivers may ram any part of their opponents’ cars to put them out of action. There is only one rule in this type of derby: ramming the driver’s door is prohibited.

The competition will use a double-elimination format. This means that anyone who loses during the opening heats will be able to repair their car in the Technical Zone and compete in the “Battle for Prestige”. If luck is on their side this time, they will advance to the final!

Competition among the “battle monsters” promises to be fierce in every class. Presenter and showman Artem Rybakin will compete in the Unlim class. His GAZ-21, #тачкарыбакина, brought his team victory at the demolition derby in Pinsk. A large contingent from Grodno is expected in the “Base Pro” class. Their cars proved a welcome surprise for demolition derby enthusiasts — and an unwelcome one for their rivals. Some of Belarus’s most experienced demolition derby drivers will compete in the “Base” class, demonstrating the beauty of destruction and showing what cars with seemingly completely deformed bodies can still do.

It is important to understand that the outcome of a demolition derby can never be predicted. Victory depends on hundreds of small factors, so the suspense will continue until the final seconds of the last heat!

The guaranteed prize fund for the Season Final is 2,200 roubles. The largest prize — 700 roubles — will go to the winner of the “Base” class. A separate prize will be awarded to the winner of the traditional “Audience Favourite” category, chosen by the spectators.
