Construction of a Working Replica of the German Sd.Kfz. 222 Light Armoured Car.

Work has begun at Stalin Line on a working replica of the German Sd.Kfz. 222 light armoured car. 

It was developed in 1936 for the reconnaissance battalions of Wehrmacht armoured divisions. It was armed with a 20 mm gun and a coaxial machine gun. At ranges of up to 500 metres, the gun’s armour-piercing projectile could penetrate 20 mm of armour, while its sub-calibre projectile could penetrate 49 mm at ranges of up to 100 metres. By the end of the war, 989 armoured cars of this type had been produced.

The Vehicle Is Rapidly Taking Shape

Following the installation of the turret ring, the rotating turret has been fitted to the vehicle, and work has begun on the vision ports and a functional 20 mm gun.

The Sd.Kfz. 222 replica under construction has now been fitted with a turret traverse mechanism, a gun manufactured at Stalin Line complete with an elevation mechanism, and an instrument panel.
