In Memory of A. F. Fen

On 21 December 2017, Alexander Fyodorovich Fen, a veteran of the Great Patriotic War and Major-General of Tank Forces, passed away.

His life was an example of the resilience of the human spirit and selfless service to his homeland.  Alexander Fyodorovich took part in the Battles of Stalingrad and Kursk, fought in Right-Bank Ukraine and participated in the Bagration Belarusian Offensive Operation. He helped liberate Minsk, the capital of the Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic, and took part in the destruction of the German forces in East Prussia. During the war, he personally destroyed 12 enemy tanks, was wounded four times and twice escaped from a burning tank.

In the 1970s, Major-General A. F. Fen served as Deputy Commander of the 5th Guards Tank Army of the Red Banner Belarusian Military District.

Alexander Fyodorovich played a highly active role in events held by the Stalin Line Historical and Cultural Complex and the “Memory of Afghanistan” Foundation, and regularly met with school pupils and young people. We extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Alexander Fyodorovich Fen. His cherished memory will remain in our hearts for ever.
