In Memory of Zhores Alferov

Our distinguished fellow countryman, eminent scientist, Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Nobel laureate Zhores Ivanovich Alferov has passed away.

Zhores Alferov authored fundamental works in the fields of semiconductor physics, semiconductor electronics and quantum electronics. His work became widely known and gained international recognition.

Zhores Ivanovich visited Stalin Line twice, in 2007 and 2014. Meeting the scientist left a lasting impression on the staff of the Historical and Cultural Complex. Zhores Ivanovich showed a sincere interest in the history of the fortified regions, readily joining the discussion, sharing his thoughts and asking many questions.

He left the following entry in the distinguished visitors’ book: “Many thanks to the founders and staff of the Stalin Line Historical and Cultural Complex. This place fosters true patriotism; this chapter in the heroic history of the Soviet country is especially important for our young people. Thank you! Belarusians have always been true patriots of our great Motherland!” Zhores Alferov, 25 August 2007.

We shall remember Zhores Ivanovich as a very kind and sincere man, and a true patriot of our Motherland. May his memory live for ever…
