To mark Defenders of the Fatherland Day in February 2016, the Stalin Line reenactors completed work on a replica of the Panzer 38(t) light tank.
This Czechoslovak tank was developed in 1938 and, following the occupation of the Czech lands, was produced for Germany until 1942. The Panzer 38(t) formed the backbone of the Wehrmacht armoured divisions that attacked the Minsk and Polotsk Fortified Regions in the summer of 1941, and subsequently took part in the battles of Smolensk and Moscow. A number of captured Panzer 38(t) tanks served with the Red Army in the summer of 1942.
The Panzer 38(t) replica was built using a Soviet GT-MU tracked armoured personnel carrier, return rollers and tracks from an AT-P artillery tractor, and a turret ring from a BMP. The original Czech tank’s hull, its distinctive turret, gun, machine guns and numerous external details were recreated by our craftsmen: Alexander Mikalutsky, Vladimir Yakushev and his sons Alexei and Maxim. It took more than four months to build this unique operational vehicle. The photograph, showing the original tank on the left and the replica on the right, demonstrates how closely our replica resembles a genuine Panzer 38(t).
